Like Socialism, Gun Control has never worked anywhere it's been tried

see also: Chicago....

so anyway, I can't remember where I saw this today, but you need to watch this.  Fair warning: it's safe for work, but it contains some graphic images that may make you tear up (or get really pissed off).  It's a little over six minutes long describing the aftermath of Australia's gun ban.

IIRC, after the Australian gun ban went into effect, they had a dramatic increase in people being attached with swords.  In the twenty-first century.

A couple of relevant quotes.  First, Robert Heinlein:

"An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life."
And second, a little gem I recently picked up over at Cold Fury:

"America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards."Claire Wolfe, 101 Things to Do 'Til the Revolution
Yeah, that's going to end up on the sidebar soon.
