A Day Well Spent

Woot! does not begin to cover it....

Yes, this document has been mildly altered

so anyway, yesterday I did the training day required for a concealed pistol license.  A day well spent, says I.

I've been meaning to get my concealed carry permit for years, but could never find / justify the time to do an all day training class, as they were always offered on weekends.

I did suffer an embarrassing moment, as I had a mechanical failure after my first shot.  My first shot from my  Tokarev M213 was in the 10-ring, then that little Chi-Com fucker wouldn't cycle.  It ejected the first spent case, but when I applied my booger-hook to the bang-switch nothing happened,  Hammer back, everything looked ready to go; bang switch: nothing.  I'll be taking it apart to see just what's the matter tomorrow.

The bright side of this event is that the range comped me a Glock 17 to complete the course.  I had never shot a Glock before, I was favorably impressed.

WOOT! (Updated)

I love it when a plan comes together...

so anyway, it looks like the stars are aligning for yours truly.  For years, I have been meaning to get a concealed carry permit, but haven't been able to find the time to take the class and get it done.  Around these parts, the CPL classes are on weekends, and I just can't justify forsaking the family and my household responsibilities on a weekend.

So, lo and behold, one of the ranges that I frequent is offering a CPL class this Thursday!   WOOT!  Technically, I'm off work until 02JAN13, but I had already told the Oh.So.Progressive.(Soon.To.Be.Ex).Missus™ that I'd probably have to go in to work on Thursday and Friday.

"Probably" just became a certainty, IYKWIMAITYD.

So, I'll do the CPL class on Thursday; then on Friday, I'll go to the county court-house (in the Peoples' Republik of AnnArbor) and fill out all the forms...

of course, this plan depends on the CPL class still accepting participants.

Tales from the road

Travelling, I am....

so anyway, tonight The Stoopid Business™ has parked me in Midland, Ontario for a visit to the tool shop tomorrow morning, then another arduous six+ hour drive back to Detroit (Rock City).

We had a fine dinner at Kelsey's (think of a Canadian variant of Chili's / Applebee's / Fridays); and now I'm back in the room with marginal internet service and NO ALCOHOL, thanks to the goofy way Canadians sell beer.  Government run beer stores that close at 8:00 PM.  That shouldn't happen in a civilized nation.

The Most Terrible Day

absolutely just awful...

so anyway, the Nation weeps tonight because some deranged fuckhead went in to the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut and killed twenty-six people, twenty of them children between the ages of five and ten.

"... twenty of them children between the ages of five and ten..."

Roll that thought around in your head for a few minutes.  Pissed off yet?  If not, seek help.  You're not human, and you are stealing oxygen on my planet.

The deranged fuckhead at least showed a small sign of basic human decency and killed himself, as well.  Which is who he wanted dead in the first place.

Ace had a really good "arm-chair" psycho-analysis of the deranged fuckhead and the enabling MSM this afternoon:
"...And a lot of media coverage tends to play this angle up. And I don't mean to knock the press too badly on this -- evil sells, and these people are evil.

However, I think it would do at least something to dissuade the next potential mass murderer to know, for example, that coverage on him will not focus on the Evil Menace part of him (which is a self-conception he finds flattering), but the Sad, Lonely Pathetic Guy Who Has a Small Dick and Couldn't Keep a Woman or a Job and Just Couldn't Hack It part of him. The part that's actually much more relevant to his crime -- masterful men do not have to kill people to let the world know "I exist" -- and the party [sic] that he's actually afraid of other people knowing about..."
Emphasis mine. 'cause you know it's true. RTWT

Right to Work

it's about damn time....

so anyway, I'll apologize in advance for a "video intense" post.  As you may have heard, Michigan is now a "right to work" state, and the union thugs (BIRM) are level-set on out-doing the goings on in Wisconsin a year and a half ago (or whenever it was.  I lose track of time.)

The Detroit (Rock City) local TV was playing the protest off as "angry, but peaceful"  noon-ish:

Scene from a Sunday afternoon

just 'cause it amused me...

so anyway, Sunday afternoon found me in the laundromat washing a few over-sized items.  About half way through the dryer cycle, I wandered down the sidewalk to the little Chinese food place for a steamin' bowl of hot and sour soup:

Seeing my lunch in that context just struck me as funny, in a curious sort of way.

It wasn't a long walk:

Gui Lin restaurant, Saline, Michigan (just a thirty second walk from the laundromat)
As far as Hot and Sour goes, it was pretty good
