"Our natural, inalienable rights are now considered to be a dispensation from government, and freedom has never been so fragile, so close to slipping from our grasp as it is at this moment." - Ronald W. Reagan

Spot on, do go read...
so anyway, Mike of Cold Fury fame pays the freight, tips the driver, then nails it to the f'n wall:
"And now we have the unappetizing spectacle of “liberal” idiots opining endlessly on TV and in op-eds everywhere about how utterly mystifying, how completely BAFFLING, how very nearly impossible it is for smart folks like them to discern the motives of the latest batch of Islamist killers to hit us."

Epic Rant on a new-found blog
You must read the whole thing...
so anyway, via Ragin' Dave of Peace or Freedom fame, we learn of Lurking Rhythmically. She has a gun control rant up that you simply must read. Culling out an excerpt really would not do it justice, so just go read it already.
Well, OK, if you simply must have an excerpt, try this:
The astute reader will note that Lurking Rhythmically has been added to the blogroll in the sidebar.
I forgot where I found this
but twelve hours later it still cracks me up...
so anyway, this:
That's some seriously funny shit, right there.

Suspect #2 (Updated)
is in custody...
so anyway, I had to break away from the coverage around the time they were trying to toss a flash-bang grenade into the boat, and I just sat back down, so I missed all the excitement. I also (thankfully) missed TFG's press conference.
|My first thought was "Dammit, you don't handcuff a dead man".|
My second thought was "Wow, their cell-phone camera is worse than mine."
He was taken alive. The MFM has already begun the "Trayvon" treatment, all afternoon I saw pictures of him as a fresh-faced angelic 12 year old. Things will get interesting from here.
Had I been thinking, or...what's the technical term? Sober? when I first posted this, I would have included this:
We need more people like Rick Monday
Seeing evil and taking action....
so anyway, This is one of my all-time "feel-good" videos:

They're Professionals, don't you know...
layers and layers of editors and fact checkers...
so anyway, I was perusing the other news of the day and I ran across this little gem:
Way to go ABC News! You not only got it completely wrong, you left the piece up all friggin' day!
The "Charlie Wilson" eulogized today by ABC News actually died in 2010. The "Charlie Wilson" who passed today was indeed from Ohio.
Cripes, even the prog-tard rejects at HuffPo got it right.
*****Update***** As of Noon Tuesday, ABC still has not made the correction

Sick and Revolting
The biggest news story you've never heard of...
so anyway, driving home from work this evening, I was listening to On The Edge with Thayrone as is my habit. Thayrone was playing the audio from Chris Smith's (R-NJ) speech on the floor of the House of Representatives about the Kermit Gosnell murder trial and the MFM's seeming unwillingness to cover it.
Arriving home, I once again proved that my Bing-fu is strong and dug up the video of Rep. Smith's speech:

see also: Chicago....
so anyway, I can't remember where I saw this today, but you need to watch this. Fair warning: it's safe for work, but it contains some graphic images that may make you tear up (or get really pissed off). It's a little over six minutes long describing the aftermath of Australia's gun ban.

Whittle on North Korea
so anyway, Bill Whittle has a new Afterburner up on the North Korean situation.

so anyway, normally I would not even read a blog post about Geraldo Rivera or Bill O'Rielly, however Jeff Goldstein of Protein Wisdom fame has a post up that makes some very valid points. Being Goldstein, he mixes a brief analysis of the increasing irrelevance of the MBM* in general and Fox News in specific with world-class snark:
"To which I say this, to O’Reilly, to Rove, to Geraldo, et al.: you’re over. That you don’t yet know it just speaks to your insulated arrogance.
Honestly, if Bill O’Reilly was on fire I wouldn’t piss on him. Though if there was a Bible about, I might try to put out the flames by thumping him with it. Just because I’d enjoy the irony."Read the whole thing.

Odds and Ends
a couple of things that caught my eye today that you should probably know about...
so anyway, some nut-job went all stabbie with a knife at Lone Star Community College in Cypress, Texas this afternoon. I first saw the news over at Ace of Spades HQ, where Ace quite properly focuses on the "nut-job" aspect and closes with this:
The problem, obviously, is "assault people," which is what we used to call psychopaths and murderers before The Burning Times, when all words were replaced by a poll-tested political euphemism.""Assault people" indeed.
Mike "Cold Fury (actual)" Hendrix took the lateral from Ace and scrubbed it through the libtard filter. Do go read, it's short and so spot-on it's in-excerptable.
Elsewhere, Consul-at-Arms has some thoughts on our loss of a FSO in Afghanistan:
Read the whole thing, Serious You Guys*. Whenever there's news involving the State Department, Consul-at-Arms is the 'go-to" source.
*the "Serious You Guys" is a recurring meme over at Ace of Spades HQ. I'm just tryin' to keep up

Guns Save Lives
so anyway, this afternoon I was cleaning out my e-mail inbox and just for giggles, I actually opened an e-mail from the GOP. How they got my address I'll never know; probably from signing some petition whilst less than sober. The GOP's e-mail had a link to a Thomas Sowell essay that you should read. A taste:
"The defensive use of guns is usually either not discussed at all in the media or else is depicted as if it means bullets flying in all directions, like the gunfight at the OK Corral. But most defensive uses of guns do not involve actually pulling the trigger.
If someone comes at you with a knife and you point a gun at him, he is very unlikely to keep coming, and far more likely to head in the other direction, perhaps in some haste, if he has a brain in his head. Only if he is an idiot are you likely to have to pull the trigger. And if he is an idiot with a knife coming after you, you had better have a trigger to pull."Read the whole thing (it's not a long piece). As per his usual, Sowell is spot-on.

Confirming two things
that you already know to be true...
so anyway, that whole "global warming" thing? It's all bullshit:
"OVER the past 15 years air temperatures at the Earth’s surface have been flat while greenhouse-gas emissions have continued to soar. The world added roughly 100 billion tonnes of carbon to the atmosphere between 2000 and 2010. That is about a quarter of all the CO₂ put there by humanity since 1750. And yet, as James Hansen, the head of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, observes, “the five-year mean global temperature has been flat for a decade.” "Emphasis mine.
And second, we were right; as it turns out Bush 43 was not responsible for the economy crashing in '08, the lion's share of the blame for the recession accrues to Jimmy F'n Carter, William Jefferson Blythe Clinton, and the Community Re-investment Act:
"Democrats and the media insist the Community Reinvestment Act, the anti-redlining law beefed up by President Clinton, had nothing to do with the subprime mortgage crisis and recession.
But a new study by the respected National Bureau of Economic Research finds, “Yes, it did. We find that adherence to that act led to riskier lending by banks.”
Added NBER: “There is a clear pattern of increased defaults for loans made by these banks in quarters around the (CRA) exam. Moreover, the effects are larger for loans made within CRA tracts,” or predominantly low-income and minority areas."Related:
